An Octogenarian Hat Trick
Dave Kahn (1959-1963) HOF Class 2021, our only still playing octogenarian. Dave takes great pride in his ability to continue to ski and skate two sports he grew up in as a youngster in New Jersey, as he says “motion is lotion! Your body is like printer ink toner, if you don’t use it, it dries up on you”. A real traditionalist he played much of his early hockey outdoors on lakes and ponds of Princeton, NJ. Dave has continued playing with the over-80’s men’s team in California and as part of the USA Over 80’s in their annual tournaments against Canada. Dave has participated in two Alumni Games since 2021. Recently he related one of his favorite memories is during one of the recent alumni games he scored three times. Coming down the ice, at a speed a bit slower than a Zamboni, “as I reached the top of the circle the defense parted like the Red Sea and I was able to score. After the third goal they credited me with a ‘hat trick’, I said it was more of a ‘geria-trick’ .” Dave Kahn’s upbeat spirit sense of humor, and love for the game reminds us of what it means to be a true fan of hockey.
